A framework for becoming your own banker

How to Buy Whole Life
from $25.00

Ryan’s first book, written specifically for those who want to apply Nelson’s IBC in their own lives, fills the gap between having read Nelson’s Becoming Your Own Banker and feeling confident and competent to approach an agent to get your first or next IBC-style whole life policy.

In the Introduction to the fifth edition of Becoming Your Own Banker, on the third page, Nelson writes: "Becoming Your Own Banker – The Infinite Banking Concept is a text for a ten-hour course of instruction about the power of dividend-paying whole life insurance. It is not a sales tool for life insurance agents."

Sadly, in many ways, that's how many on social media treat the IBC. They see it as what the industry calls a "sales system." Much of the marketing skips clean over the sort of education required to formulate the right questions and analyze whether the answers make any sense.

The eagerness to sell product crushes what I believe is the true underlying demand: a hunger to understand the language and mechanics of these policies so that people have a fighting chance at applying Nelson's ideas to their own circumstances. In short, a demand for serious IBC-style financial education.

Other agents give me a hard time about this. "Education is still marketing, Ryan! You have a podcast, too, don't you?!"

I'm as capitalist as they come, and I embrace the moral virtue of mutually beneficial exchange. And yet, I believe there is a categorical distinction between marketing and education.

book-excerpt

The goal of marketing is a transaction.

The goal of education is a transformation.

Maybe an education-induced transformation in thinking leads to a transaction; maybe it doesn't. The success or failure of education is not contingent on whether the parties end up doing business. But the success or failure of marketing is always some function of financial performance, period.

The purpose of this book is to educate the person who's read Nelson's book and who genuinely wants to implement what Nelson taught in his or her own life. The goal is to bridge the gap between having read Nelson's book and feeling confident and well-informed enough to competently engage with an agent to acquire your first or next policy.

Distribution

How to Buy Whole Life: A Framework for Becoming Your Own Banker is available in four formats:

  • Hardcover

  • Paperback

  • Amazon Kindle eBook (available for pre-order now; downloads available March 12, 2025)

  • Amazon Audible audiobook (expected April 2025)

  • Apple Book (expected March 2025)

  • To preserve maximum quality in the physical product, packaging, and shipping experience, we order bulk quantities of hardcover and paperbacks direct from a traditional printer, store them, and fulfill and ship orders ourselves. More and more, the standard online is called “print-on-demand.” Not only do most print-on-demand publishers not offer the US Digest dimension, but as intensive readers know, the book and shipment packaging quality can be poor (e.g. pages falling out, frayed/smushed corners, etc.). That’s not happening here.

Likewise, as of this writing, we ship exclusively through UPS. Our own experience with the USPS and FedEx suggests that reported shipping timelines with these carriers can be wrong, and packages are occasionally lost. UPS may not be perfect, but it seems to be the best of the bunch.

Shipping is $8 for orders of hardcovers and/or paperbacks where the quantity is 1-5 books.

Shipping is $10 for orders of hardcovers and/or paperbacks where the quantity is 6-10 books.

The hardcover price is $35. The paperback price is $25.

For unit and shipping pricing on orders of more than 10 books, please contact us at books@griggscapitalstrategies.com.
